What is the heat treatment process for Inconel 718?
718 Alloy Typical Heat Treatment: Solution treatment at 950-980°C, hold for 1 hours, then air cool. First aging at 720°C, hold for 8 hours, then furnace cool to 620°C. Second aging at 620°C, hold for 8 hours, then air cool. Double aging provides optimal γ″ phase strengthening.
What is the difference between 718 and X750?
718 relies on dual γ' and γ" phase strengthening for higher strength (tensile ≥ 1275MPa) and a maximum operating temperature of ≤ 650°C; X750 uses only γ' phase strengthening, offering slightly lower strength (tensile ≥ 1030MPa) but a higher maximum operating temperature of 700°C. 718 is better suited for high-load components.
Can Inconel 718 be welded?
718 alloy offers excellent weldability and can be joined using TIG, MIG, or electron beam welding. We recommend ERNiCrMo-3 filler wire; post-weld heat treatment is not required to recover approximately 90% of the base metal strength.
