Analysis of the Application Advantages of Inconel C276 in Flue Gas Desulfurization

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems are critical for controlling sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants and industrial boilers. In wet FGD processes, key components such as absorption towers, slurry circulation pumps, and flue gas ducts are continuously exposed to corrosive media containing chloride, fluoride, and sulfate ions, imposing stringent requirements on material corrosion resistance.

Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276) is a tungsten-containing nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy with excellent corrosion resistance. Its chemical composition is: Nickel (Ni) balance, Chromium (Cr) 14.5-16.5%, Molybdenum (Mo) 15-17%, Tungsten (W) 3-4.5%, Iron (Fe) 4-7%, Cobalt (Co) ≤2.5%.

In wet FGD environments, C276 alloy offers the following advantages: {1) excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance with a critical pitting temperature (CPT) exceeding 80°C; {3) strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing media; {4) good weldability, maintaining corrosion resistance post-weld without requiring solution annealing.
